After a hotly contested 10-game regular season, only a dozen Class 3A teams and another dozen Class 4A squads are left standing.

Among those teams are a trio of San Juan County squads, each with their eyes set on a Blue Trophy — a prize that hasn't made its way to the Four Corners since 1973. The two teams in the best position to change that are Aztec and Bloomfield, though Farmington's chances can't be discounted, either.

Aztec, which won its final six games of the regular season and won its third consecutive District 1-4A championship, earned the No. 4 seed in New Mexico's second-largest classification, as well as a first-round bye. The Tigers will play the winner of this weekend's first-round game between No. 5 Artesia and No. 12 St. Pius on Nov. 21 or 22 at Fred Cook Memorial Stadium, according to the New Mexico Activities Association's official postseason schedule.

Should St. Pius upset Artesia, it would create a rematch of Aztec's 22-20 win over the Sartans earlier this season. In that Sept. 26 game, the Tigers blocked a field goal in the waning moments to avoid a fourth consecutive defeat, jump-starting their current hot streak.

Farmington, which finished second to Aztec in District 1-4A with a 6-4 overall record and a 2-1 mark in league play, earned the No. 7 seed and will play No. 10 Del Norte in the first round on either Frid
