Editor,

In reviewing the current brochure from San Juan United Way on their annual fund raising campaign, I noticed that 19 out of the 22 Corporate Cornerstone contributors are energy-related businesses with operations in San Juan County. The brochure states the annual donations from these businesses varies from the $3,000-$4,999 category to the $100,000-$150,000 category.

According to the brochure, these Corporate Cornerstone gifts cover all the fund raising and administrative costs of our local United Way. This allows 100 percent of all the other giving to directly fund the local United Way programs.

The importance of this fact is that it shows the tremendous positive impact the energy industry has in San Juan County. These companies and their employees continue to be great neighbors and partners in our community.

Many times in the national news, we see the energy industry portrayed as being evil and obsessed with attaining huge profits, but we seldom hear about the many good things these companies do in local communities such as ours and throughout our country.

If you have the opportunity to read the San Juan United Way brochure, please note the names of the Corporate Cornerstone givers, and thank them for their ongoing generosity to our community.
