Editor:
I will be 75 in December and my wife is — well, younger than I am. We had called around to find out when and where the H1N1 vaccine would be available for high-risk recipients of the vaccine. I was told that it would be at the senior citizen centers in both Bloomfield (9 a.m. - 5 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 27) and Aztec (9 a.m. - 5 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 28).
My wife and I have already had our (seasonal) flu vaccine for this year as we do every year. As we discussed the new H1N1 vaccine, we came to realize that it is the younger folks — children and young adults — who are more at risk than we are, so we've decided not to utilize the vaccine that's available now because of the shortages at the present time. According to news releases, the bulk of the vaccine will be available later and that is when we will take advantage of the vaccine.
We think that because the younger folks are more at risk than we are that they should be the first ones to receive the vaccine.
