Editor:

EPA rescinded its own decision on approving the air permit to Desert Rock. They want to redo, revamp, revise, rework, rethink that they made a mistake giving a permit to an Indian tribe. Did they just find out that we, the Navajo, will own half of Desert Rock?

New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson and N.M. Environment Department Secretary Ron Curry applauded the remand of EPA, knowing they just crossed the Navajo Nation sovereignty, and took away another economic development from the Indians. Now, they are saying, we are going to work with the Navajo to put more pollution equipment on proposed Desert Rock while they got all other white-people owned coal-burn power plants smoking our skies.

Over the last 10 years, Co-Gen power plants went up everywhere and coal-burning power plants all over the United States and they pick one, that's a proposed power plant on Indian land and half Indian-owned.

As I'm writing, new coal-burning power plants are in construction phase across the United States, some going seven days a week, 24 hours a day, and a few will be online any time.

I know the BIA is owned by the United States that keeps Indians in poverty with all the red tape, now add New Mexico's governor, and the EPA on to the list. I know what's going to happen if Indian-owned Desert Rock is not built. They are going to build it outside the Indian lands, with all the EPA's blessing and that coal-burning power plant will use our skies for pollution storage.

I almost forget to mention, it will burn our coal.
