Because of Day's popularity, there will be a special preshow sale.
Growing up in Santa Fe, Durango, and Aspen, Day experienced the natural beauty of the Rockies at an early age. Day now lives in Taos, and is well known throughout the Southwest for his stunning sunsets and mountain vistas, the gallery said.
Hyatt Regency has purchased his work and placed prints of "Approaching Spring" in 500 hotel rooms.
The Colorado Rockies baseball team purchased three paintings for the Coors Field Pinnacle Room.
Day's paintings may be presold before the July 4 event, but will be held for the opening.
The reception will provide visitors the opportunity to meet the artist. Sorrel Sky Gallery is located at 828 Main Ave. in historic downtown Durango.
